2018 Inner City NAIDOC Family and Sports Day

Everyone’s invited to the Inner City NAIDOC Family and Sports Day on Friday 13th July at the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence (NCIE), 180 George Street Redfern!

Organised by a coalition of local groups and organisations and held at the NCIE, the Inner City NAIDOC Family & Sports Day is the signature event for NAIDOC celebrations in the inner city of Sydney and has been running for over 20 years.

We’ve got performances by local artists, sport clinics and competitions, arts & craft activities and rides and amusements for kids. There will also be a number of service stalls providing relevant information and resources on health, wellbeing and legal support.

At last year’s Inner City NAIDOC Family and Sports Day over 5000 visitors came to the NCIE throughout the day.

Stall applications for this year’s Inner City NAIDOC are now open! We welcome applications from services and organisations as well as arts and crafts stalls.

Interested in being a stallholder? Check out the stallholder information and the stallholder application form. But don’t delay; stall applications close Tuesday 1 May 2018.

2018 NAIDOC Theme: Because of her, we can!

This year, NAIDOC week celebrates our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mothers, aunties, sisters, daughters and Elders. Women who are or have been our leaders, trailblazers, politicians, activists and social change advocates, and who fought and continue to fight for justice, empowerment, cultural expression and our rights as the First Nations peoples of this country.

These women played crucial roles in our society, they broke down cultural and institutionalised barriers and stereotypes, and often did so while caring for our families, maintaining homes and feeding young minds with dreaming stories, songlines, languages and knowledge that has kept our culture strong and enriched us as the oldest continuing culture on the planet.

Over the years, NAIDOC has experienced an increasing level of engagement from schools, local councils and workplaces. The week is not only celebrated by Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander communities, but also by other Australians as well.
