In late April, over 30 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples from across Australia had planned to attend the Indigenous Digital Excellence (IDX) Annual Champion Camp at NCIE.

The week-long camp is an opportunity for IDX’s network of community champions to connect, share knowledge, and gain new skills to take back to their communities.

Unfortunately, due to the restrictions imposed by COVID-19, the camp had to be postponed. But never shy of a challenge, the IDX team have decided to deliver the camp virtually.

The inaugural ‘IDX Virtual Gathering’ will kick off Monday 18 May with a Smoking Ceremony and Welcome streamed live from the NCIE across all participating communities.  The program is jam packed with 15 sessions to be delivered over five days.

The IDX team is ecstatic by the response from community, with over 30 participants from across 11 communities confirmed to take part in the virtual gathering.

IDX Manager Grant Cameron said he is excited to have IDX’s network of champions join him and the team as they launch a new chapter for IDX.

“This will be the first time IDX has delivered its program in a virtual setting, and we are really excited to do this with our IDX Champions. These are the people driving digital excellence in their communities.”

IDX’s success is thanks to a dedicated and passionate network of IDX champions. IDX champions are Elders, teachers, community service workers, parents and entrepreneurs based across the 28 communities IDX has visited.

The camp is always something everyone looks forward to, and the team is pleased they are still able to deliver it in the current circumstances.

“It is important that we (IDX and NCIE) continue to connect our communities and act as a bridge to opportunities, particularly during these difficult times” says Grant.
