Blak Markets back in Redfern for first ever night markets

If you’d like to try Boab Nut Ginger Beer or Crocodile Spring Rolls, then Twilight Blak Markets at National Centre of Indigenous Excellence (NCIE) on Thursday 28 November is the place for you.

This Blak Markets features Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stallholders from around Australia who are in Sydney for the first National Indigenous Bushfood Symposium run by First Hand Solutions, who also run Blak Markets.

Twilight Blak Markets is the place to buy authentic unique products, bushfoods, jewellery and gifts, knowing that 100% of the profits go back into communities.

Bush herbs, game meat, health bars, and desserts will be on sale, as well as delicious hot food from the NCIE Kitchen.

Cooking demonstrations from Dale Chapman and Aunty Beryl Van-Oploo will showcase Indigenous ingredients and flavours.

Dale Chapman is professional chef with over 30 years experience. She runs her own business, Dilly Bag, and is the author of the Cooee Cuisine Bush Food Kitchen Recipe Book. Aunty Beryl Van-Oploo is a respected Aboriginal elder and longtime chef and busineswoman, who was included in the Great Australian Cookbook. She combines traditional bush foods with contemporary foods for ultimate taste and nutritional balance. She is well-known as the founder and mentor of the Job Ready program.

The legendary Johnny Nicol will provide some cool evening jazz, and Jannawi Dance Clan will present dance, song and stories. The event will start with a smoking ceremony from Uncle Graham King.

Come and support Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander businesses, see and hear some great music, and grab some delicious food and Christmas pressies!
