Yabun Festival is the largest one day celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture in Australia, held annually on 26 January on the traditional lands of the Gadigal people in Sydney.

To keep mob safe, this year Yabun was livestreamed online and via Koori Radio, where community experienced the Corroboree Ground, Yabun Stage and Speak Out from the comfort of their homes around Australia and the world.

NCIE have a long and proud history of supporting Yabun and in this year we loved being there to help out at the Elders Lounge!

It was a hot day on Gadigal Country, so being able to make sure our Elders were looked after with a delicious feed from NCIE Catering inside the Seymour Centre was excellent.

Special shout outs to our amazing Talking About Tobacco Use (TATU) for all the Elder support on the day.

While Yabun 2021 was different to the massive in-person celebration we’re all used to, we loved being able to watch the action online and keep mob safe at the same time.

A huge thank you to everyone who tuned in to the excellent celebration, and to all the deadly performers for making it so memorable! Check out the incredible Yabun 2021 artwork by Warumungu / Wombaya woman Jessica Johnson of Nungala Creative below.

Of course, biggest thanks go to Yabun Festival and Koori Radio 93.7FM for putting it on!

We can’t wait to see what next year brings, and to keep up the tradition of celebrating the survival of the oldest living cultures on earth.
